A blanc hair salon in Melbourne has won a beauty competition, beating a rival to win $100,000 in cash prizes.
The beauty competition is held by the Blanc Hair Care Australia, which says it is looking to attract a younger customer base and attract more clients to its salon.
Blanc HairCare Australia president Tony Gaudron said the competition was a chance to show people that there are other ways to look good, particularly with long locks.
“We wanted to see if we could make it as interesting as a salon salon, with all the things we do,” he said.
Mr Gaud, who has been a blanc salon for nearly 30 years, said it was important to have a competition in Melbourne, where there are “too many blancs” in the community.
“If you have one person that has this beautiful, beautiful hairstyle, you’ve got to have another one that can do it,” he told ABC Radio Melbourne.
This is the first time the Blanco Hair Care Association has won money in the beauty contest, which was established in 2014.
However, Mr Gaud said he hoped to attract more people into the salon to help it stay open.
“We want people to come in here and be their best selves, and have a great time,” he joked.
He said he was looking forward to being a full-time salon owner and working with his customers to develop the salon’s future.
A blanc haircut can be done with a variety of styles, including long, straight or slicked back hair.
